After spending the last 9 months or so learning to use Unreal Engine 5.3, this passion project pulls together just about every technique and trick I have learned so far inside Unreal.
I also wanted to use this project as a way to improve my skills so I spent a ton of time cleaning up the model’s geometry, creating the UVs (including UDIM), and rigging the car. I also experimented with Substance Painter to create some wild custom liveries, but in the end, I just did all the materials in Unreal because of the dedicated automotive tools that come with the software.
This was also my first time using the ACES color workflow to grade my Unreal renders in After Effects and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I’d like to eventually move to Nuke for all of my Unreal compositing so I can get more comfortable with a professional workflow using ACES.
There is a lot more I could say about how much this project has helped me learn, but really I just hope folks take a look and let me know what you think.
Feel free to reach out with any questions about my Unreal workflow or how to get started in the software. I can recommend a lot of great learning resources online.
