Lite Brite: Worlds of Wonder (Santa Monica)

Differing from other installations of the immersive Lite Brite show (See Others Here), the Santa Monica version of the immersive experience embraces a more hybrid approach to immersivity, featuring a large multi-room journey throughout different digital and physical stations. Still aiming to maintain a 60-minute immersive journey It allows for patrons to meander through a set series of rooms, culimating in the main show near end of the experience.

My responsibilities were initially to vet the viability of the show space for the installation of the show, design all aspects of the new hybrid experience and determine how the existing content could be used to facilitate this new version.

Additionally, I was responsible for all architectural layouts, construction detailing for set deck, technical solutions for projector locations, trussing needs, LED support systems, server locations, digital wayfinding solutions for both content and delivery, construction management and as on-site installation team lead.

As one of the on-site calls I made, I decided the experience needed some wayfinding to help people navigate through it, as the layout was a bit ‘labyrinthian’. I was responsible for devising the technical solution for this implementation, as well as producing the content that would live on the signage.

Each signage station explains the room a guest is about to enter and corresponds to a location on the experiential map located at the queueing area and online, allowing each guest to orient themselves more effectively. Additionally part of the design logic is that the lite-brite pegs always move in the direction that you are intended to move in, allowing attendants to inform guests at the start of thier journey to always ‘follow the pegs’.
