I had an aha moment one day.

I had been struggling for years on making beautiful compositions.  I would start with the ground and by the time i created something, my muse spark had diminished. I would just give up.

I watched a tutorial from kitbash on creating scenes for the Luminara contest.  Instead of building from the ground up, he started with only one buildling. One building. This went against everything I had learned to this point.  He didn’t even care about the ground.

I felt a lightening bolt hit my brain.  Why can’t I do that? It is so simple, so freeing.

I opened Kitbash3D Cargo, which now has amazing connectivity into C4D and redshift. I found a kit with unique buildings, and pulled in the biggest models. I started moving around them, like a visitor.

The inspiration for this render, came from The Fifth Element.  The scene where Corbin Dallas is eating at the window of his high rise apartment, and a small boat is floating outside his window, feeding him sushi.

I gave up control to my creative spirt, and the scene began to build itself. I thought if I could just compose it in one hour, which is all i had, I could complete it later, but I wanted to keep it under 8 hours, to FORCE myself to publish whatever I had, even if it’s not great. That’s how we learn, right?

But life is not life without creatures of some sort. Enter BigMediumSmall and the water village characters. They were perfect for this scene.

The skills I wanted to develop are fog atmosphere and DOF.  I document these settings so i can use them quickly in the next project.

NO GENERATIVE AI WAS USED IN THE CREATION OF THIS RENDER. This is a personal project.

Clear skies my friends. Until next time,
